Well Done Ghana

It goes without saying, a huge congratulations goes out to our African Brothers, Ghana, we wish them luck as they progress to the next level of the competition.

By the time the World Cup is over we will see ourselves close to paying tolls on the N1 Highway. With the Gautrain operating currently between OR Tambo and Sandton the rest of us will have to wait till the Pretoria to Sandton line is operational. I just hope the fare will be reasonable as the trip for the latter costs R200 return.

Our transport system has been modified incredibly, the only concern is the taxi industry, with the introduction of the BRS system and it being introduced to other areas in Gautain I wonder if we will see an improvement in the service leves. For the time being enjoy the clean free roads........

Let's meet again...

Let's Stand up and Be Proudly South African

Hi to all,

Im sure you are wandering whether team South Africa is going to make it or not in tonight's clash against France, well hoist your flags up high and keep the spirit alive, whatever comes our way is what we will have to take. Goodluck to the boys, make us proud!!

I must say the roads continue looking clean, a few incidents here and there but in general we've seen a good behaviour from our motorists during the cup. I wonder how many people are on leave, I struggle to wake up in the winter and with the games I'm sure it would have been good to just relax at home with the only movement being to the fan parks and back home.

Let us know which fan parks you have been to and what the mood has been. Personally I have been to Innisfreepark and Centurion, the mood there is priceless (yes there's free entrance).

I've had some drama on the roads, was stopped by some policemen who walked out on me with guns, thinking I had stolen my vehicle. I thought they would be violent but it seems they can keep it all in amidst the hecticness and still do a good well rounded job.

Blow that Vuvuzela.....

the road constructions...urgh!!

Good day to you, it certainly has been some time since we've communicated. Well, some great news to start off with, Benni-McCarthy has been left out of the SA squad for the world cup... I know some of you are happy but there are a few grumpy people out there.

Without much further ardue let me introduce you to the N1 highway. Im sure you are well aware that on Monday (31 May 2010) we saw a few more lanes being opened making five or so lanes open in one direction at any given point along the route. Please don't get me wrong here but the quality of those lanes is not good as there's still loose stones flying from the road, though it certainly feels fresh driving at around 120 Km/h during peak time, wow!!

Heres what I have experienced with the construction of some of the lanes on the Highway:

1. Scrapped roads ( making road handling and braking difficult)
2. Loose stones ( have a huge crack running across the windscreen and dents on the bonnet)
3. Uneven road surfaces (affecting the wheel alignment and balancing)
4. Potholes ( burst tyre at one time)
5. Non-marked road surface ( almost colliding with a truck)
6. One lane open ( being late for work)
7. Lanes merging into one, harphazardly ( almost crashing into road chevrons on closed lane)
8. With rain, it becomes dangerous to drive at any given time

Heres your chance to rage, or even start putting up a petition:

I have a bone to pick with those responsible for putting up tollgates on this route, with so many people travelling on this road daily why start the tolling at such a high rate? ( 50c per Km) Where is the ordinary person going to get funds to enlarge those pockets ready to benefit from this get rich quick scheme?

Do send us feedback and verbalise your thoughts and feelings about these and other issues. Send me mail on: housedrum@hotmail.com should you want to share any sentiments.
