Petrol price to increase by 14c

The retail prices of petrol will increase by 14c a litre for all grades on May 5, the Department of Energy has announced.

This follows a 48c per litre increase last month.
Diesel prices will also increase, with 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur both going up by 29.5c per litre.
Wholesale paraffin will increase by 30 cents, and illuminating paraffin will go up by 41c per litre.
Petrol in Gauteng will cost 872 cents a litre from 858c before, and 848c at the coast from 835c before.
During the period under review, the average international product prices of Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin increased.
The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 31 March 2010 to 29 April 2010 was 7.3749 compared to 7.4753 during the previous period.

Johannesburg - Two drivers were wounded after they allegedly shot each other in an apparent road rage incident in Blairgowrie, Randburg on Sunday, Johannesburg police said.
Spokesperson Karen Jacobs said a driver of a BMW 320i allegedly argued with the driver of a VW Caddy panel van at the corner of Conrad and Standard roads around 13:00.
"We don't know what the argument was about, but the BMW driver allegedly followed the VW home to Blairgowrie."
Jacobs said the two allegedly argued again and multiple shots were fired by both drivers.
The BMW driver sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and the VW to the leg, she said.
They were both taken to hospital.
Jacobs said police opened two cases of attempted murder and confiscated two firearms from the drivers.

Investigations were underway and the two were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court as soon as they were discharged from hospital.

Rainy weather, slippery roads

Ok, very daunting I must say, what kind of weather do we have in Mzantsi? Or should I ask what season are we in cause it always seems that we experience it all in a day, or at least that's what happens up here in Gauteng. So the roads are slippery and its raining, the N1 seems impressive as everyone is patiently getting to their destination. Today Im travelling all alone, got no-one taking pics for me, but whats your take on people talking on their cellphone with this kind of condition (raining)? I say one needs two hands for the steering wheel, or at least I roll like that....

A couple of irritating things happening on the road, then traffic comes to a halt. I always say, then look up...see whats in the sky

At least I can stop by a Fifa ticketing centre on my way to "the grind", check out this one located on the corner of Rivonia and Lyndell Road (guess what cars are parked underneath)

But then again you are doing all this for pure fun, make a u-turn and you can go play the stock-market..., wishing you a great one!!

Another good morning it was, today took us two and a half hours to get to work, what a start to the day. As we're driving towards Jozi just after the Buccleugh Interchange we caught a glimpse of a taxi running away from speedcops (Traffic officers) and eventually he was stopped, what drama it was as they couldnt wait but to discipline him.

Some interesting stuff some drivers write on their cars, mmmmmmmmh, I wonder what I would write on my tail. check out how creative some people are, this particular person wrote, "noo-noo-pie" on their bumper, I mean what kind of a  petname is that...

School's open, second quarter of the year here we come...

Morning to all ye! What a great day which saw us wake up to a mystified N1. No incidents reported thus far, looking forward to a great day. Its so good to see motorists patiently driving through the thick fog. Gees, what would the difference be between fog and mist?  Anyways the front page of the Citizen has the headline: Zuma worse than Mbeki,  cant wait to read through that one........

End of another day

Well I guess that was the end of yet another beautiful day. Something I want to share in the morning. I want to take some pictures of what some women do whilst the traffic is not moving.....

Its so good to ride on the empty roads, but how does this work now, do school kids fill up the roads?

Need a lift?

My heart goes out to all those workers who get to ride at the back of the "bakkie" whilst braving the cold, heat and sometimes the rain. I wish to know whether there are laws in place to protect people transported in some of these vehicles cause they are not safe or comfortable at all.

Just last week (24 March 2010) we passed a truck as above and it was loaded with workers. Now I dont know whether the owners knew that this truck was designed to ferry horses and instead opted to fill it up with their labourers, geepers, or is it the economy that's contributing to this. I sure hope this thing was clean enough to carry people around.

Introduction and Background

Life on the N1 highway. This blog was inspired after having moved to Joburg, and in my quest to make a better living have to go through the traffic nightmare. I sometimes spend two hours, one way, and get back home drained. Well, believe you me there are a couple of interesting things that happen on this route. And if you thought that I was irresponsible and take pics whilst driving, well, neh, youve guessed wrong. I have a couple of people I travel with that take care of that when I am on the road. So, nuff said. here goes our story....
